1. The Haunted House of Rock: 5/10. Thriller-esque, spooky snappy snare with a typical rap scheme that I expect from this time period. Extended breakdown between verse 2 and 3 also reminds me of songs that are too long in this same period. No stand out bars but some funny call outs.
2. Nasty Lady: 4/10. Funkier beat but littered with a guttural woman’s scream that I dislike. Beat is very groovy but the cadence does not amuse me. Outro has so many layers and panning that it felt messy.
3. Underground: 2/10. Childish chanting, weird skit by an Englishman? Interlude felt like it was going on forever.
4. It’s All in Mr. Magic’s Wand: 4/10. Mostly instrumental but groovy and on theme.
5. Magic’s Wand: 4/10. First time I can differentiate between Jalil and Ecstasy. Pretty cheesy lyrics but enjoyed the back and forth. Can tell it’s about someone in the scene that I am not privy to.
6. Yours for a Night: 7/10. Loved the singer, hitting me in the nostalgic R&B feels. Felt the rap acutally fit within the sound.
7. Rap Machine: 4/10. I get and enjoy the theme of the song but the rap machine interludes are grating and off beat which takes me out of the song. The last verse and outro were more bearable. Does Jalil have a slight lisp?
Overall Mathematical Score: 4.4/10
Does the heart agree?: Yes. I think this was a good intro for me to the group. Hoping the next album is more pure hip-hop in theme.
