Danny Brown – Atrocity Exhibition (2016)

Long hiatus due to holidays and the overwhelming feels of starting back again.

1. Downward Spiral: 4/10. Industrial construction site and bowling alley vibes.

2. Tell Me What I Don’t Know: 5/10. I like how each third the beat builds and when the new drums come in.

3. Rolling Stone: 5/10. Haunting dark beat but not the biggest fan of the feature.

4. Really Doe: 7/10. Twinkly beat but still very hip-hop. Kendrick’s chorus is fire, love his flow on his verse. Ab’s lyrics are great. Not the biggest fan of Earl’s verse.

5. Lost: 4/10. I didn’t like the mixing around the sample, feel like I can’t hear him right.

6. Ain’t It Funny: 6/10. Track feels like speeding in the fast lane but I never get a break.

7. Golddust: 4/10. Industrial feel, heavy guitar interludes. Experimental but the drums feel messy to me.

8. White Lines: 6/10. Almost like a nursery rhyme.

9. Pneumonia: 7/10. Construction sounds again in the verses are hard for me. Feels like lowrider music. Hilarious lyrics.

10. Dance In The Water: 2/10. Feels like the lowest lyrical quality from Danny. Not that everything needs to have substance but this feels cheesy.

11. From The Ground: 6/10. Reflective come up story with a great feature. Love their voices layered but there is a sample of someone snoring.

12. When It Rain: 6/10. He’s spitting on this one but wish there was more beat variety.

13. Today: 5/10. Song layout feels very similar to previous, also wishing for more beat variety. The “Today” chant gets too repetitive.

14. Get Hi: 7/10. His references are so wild. I was the chorus was song like Afroman. Don’t see the need for the feature.

15. Hell For It: 6/10. Uplifting track for the closer.

Overall Mathematical Score: 5.3/10

Does the heart agree?: Yes, this definitely did not feel like the album for me. I don’t think my mind is expanded enough to totally appreciate this work.
