Danny Brown – Quaranta (Deluxe) (2023)

Stopped listening to music again but seeing Danny live this month put pressure on me to finish this discography.

1. Quaranta: 7/10. Love this introspection for an opening track. Groovy beat and instrumental.

2. Tantor: 5/10. Another cutty reference easter egg. Repetitive riff began to annoy me.

3. Ain’t My Concern: 5/10. Great heavy bass. I just didn’t connect to the track.

4. Dark Sword Angel: 6/10. Love the beat and his voice inflections.

5. Y.B.P.: 7/10. Great beat and flow. Amazing storytelling. Not the biggest fan of Bruiser Wolf’s tone, reminds me of E40.

6. Jenn’s Terrific Vacation: 6/10. Pretty funny imagery, great story telling on gentrification.

7. Down Wit It: 7/10. So interesting to think of the headspace he was in while writing this. Dark and vulnerable.

8. Celibate: 6/10. Hilarious references, love the word play. MIKE’s verse flows well and feels personal.

9. Shakedown: 6/10. Lonely, self-hatred vibes on a twinkling sweet beat. Very interesting this second have is slow jams, toned down and mature.

10. Hanami: 5/10. Chill beat but didn’t stand out to me.

11. Bass Jam: 6/10. Super chill again, thoughtful sweet track. I think I’m getting fatigued of this second half.

12. Cheaters: 5/10. The whistle sound irks me but I can head bop to this.

13. Keep It To Me: 5/10. Interesting ending on a depressing track.

Overall Mathematical Score: 5.8/10

Does my heart agree?: Yes. When I reflect on this album I feel how he has matured. I feel down imagining him in this state of life where I think he is suffering through his addiction. I was hoping for bangers so this feels neutral.
